After years in the U.S., a Taiwanese immigrant returns to her hometown with a young daughter in tow to assist her father with his bed-and-breakfast.

Reporter Miao Miao was originally on a lighthearted mission to reconnect with her childhood friends. But her search uncovered the truth behind the car accident that left her and her friends orphans. The accident was no accident at all, but a coverup for murders and corruptions spanning 50 years.

The film, adapted from the Chung Chao-Cheng novel of the same title, Song of Chatian Mountain, depicts the intellectual tyranny of the occupiers at the end of the Second World War and the way that educated persons resisted the war. A Taiwanese man, Lu Zhixiang, well educated in Japan and a judo master, returns to Taiwan to live up to his high ideals.
